For Garrard decks that use the Unimech mechanism such as CC10, 5100, 5200, 5300, 6100, 6200, 6300, Model 770, Model 730 etc

The Unimech mechanism was much criticised on its release but it is actually a very well designed record player mechanism, with some extremely well thought out features. With a little effort the entire mechanism can be removed and ready for service in 10 mins with nothing but basic tools

It does unfortunately have an annoying fault caused by a disappointing design decision. The combined speed and record size selection lever drives a plate within the Unimech that uses a badly thought out pivot. Due to lack of lubrication this pivot after 50 years is often hard to move and this makes speed change selection problematic. It is almost impossible to adequately re-lube this pivot

Does your Unimech deck exhibit any or all of these symptoms?:

1) speedchange lever totally jammed?
2) lever snapped?
3) selection of speeds is inaccurate with the lever jumping from one end to other without stopping at the intermediary speeds?
4) hard to set the correct stylus set down position? for example set it to land correctly on a 12inch record, then it totally misses the 7 inch run-in groove or vice versa

These are all symptoms of the gummed up lever

As no amount of lubrication seemed to fix this common problem we finally developed a kit that allows you to remove the old pivot and install a new brass pivot that fixes all the above problems. Speedchange will be nice and smooth and light and accurate

Setdown position may still be inaccurate if the jammed mechanism has been used too long in its damaged state as it may have deformed the Unimech plate, but so far the kit has fixed every setdown problem we've encountered.

The kit contains:

1 x replacement brass pivot/hub
1 x brass screw and 2 washers for hub
1 x tap (hole/thread cutter) and special holder
1 x special drill bit
1 x socket head hub puller bolt
1 x tube of grease
1 x bottle of light oil
10 page photographic how-to installation document

OPTIONAL: if someone has forced the speedchange lever too hard the internal plastic C shaped lever often snaps. If this has occurred we can supply a reproduction lever

We also sell a new cartridge kit for the 6100, 6200, 6300 series please see our other listings. We are happy to combine postage and refund any excess postage charges
