Commemorative Silver 1972 Tercentenary Twin Headed Eagle Dish by C Hoare & Co

Here for your consideration is a magnificent, limited edition, commemorative, silver , armada/alms dish, produced to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the longest privately owned bank in the UK (Hoare and Co Bank, London).

This dish has a central circular gilt disc with twin headed eagles which is the Hoare family Coat of Arms with the commemorative dates 1672 to 1972. A very good item for silver collectors because its the only piece (albeit a limited edition) known to have a Hoare & Co makers mark attached to it.

The dish also has the Britannia standard silver mark so is 950/1000 standard instead of the more usual 925/ 1000 sterling silver standard.

It's fully hallmarked to the front with the initials CH Co in an oblong cartouche for C Hoare and Company, lion passant, Britannia and a date letter 'q' for 1971. This commemorative dish is in superb original condition, with no damage or repairs. It does have some age-related silver patina/patination, commensurate with age, but nothing unusual.

C Hoare & Co ...

Hoare & Co also known as Hoares, is a British private bank, founded in 1672 by Sir Richard Hoare. It remains family-owned and is currently managed by the eleventh generation of his direct descendants. It's the second oldest bank in the United Kingdom and reputedly the fifth oldest in the world.

C. Hoare & Co. provides private banking services that include loans, mortgages and savings accounts, as well as tax and estate planning services. Over the years, its clients have included Samuel Pepys, John Dryden, Jane Austen and numerous members of the aristocracy. Today, they are primarily high-net-worth individuals and families. The bank currently has two branches in London, 37 Fleet Street and 32 Lowndes Street and one branch in Cambridge which opened in March 2019.
