Description
The Orchard gallery is pleased to be able to offer a lovely collection of paintings and drawings by the Northern artist John Gilbey Bowles 1929-2011. Each work being offered is a visual feast of colour, composition and emotion. Bowles won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art at a young age. His drive to convey a new visual language caught the attention of L S Lowry and he helped him to get his first major exhibition in 1965 and they became lifelong friends. Throughout his career he developed other friendships with other major British 20th century artists.
This lovely example of his work depicts a resting nude on a brass bed. It is a great composition. It is executed as a lithograph and measures 24x20 inches and comes unframed. It is signed and dates circa 1950s and is numbered 1/10 and it will reframe brilliantly. There is a small stain in the margin but it does not detract from the image.
