Mahnken was a highly decorated German Army reconnaissance batallion commander during WW2!
Mahnken during WW2 was known as Batallion Reconnaissance Commander with the 299th Infanterie Division particularly during the Battles of Bobruisk and Witebsk during 1942 on the Eastern Front and later he would be Killed in Action on July 10, 1944 on the Eastern Front.
Because of his military successes, he was awarded the Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, the Honour Ribbon of the Army and Waffen SS, the Honour Clasp to the Iron Cross First and Second Class, and the Iron Cross First and Second Class.
And because of his extreme personal bravery and successful military leadership in combat, Mahnken was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross on April 5, 1942!
The postcard size sepia Binz Film Verlag War vintage photograph shows Mahnken as a Wehrmacht Major wearing his Knights Cross and he has signed his name across the lower portion in black fountain pen ink. The signed foto has lite collectors album remains on reverse, otherwise is in very good condition. I purchased this from Alexander Historical Auctions sometime ago. Along with a modern, internet, unsigned print of Mahnken as shown in the scan, and the combat during the Battle of Witebsk. Total: 4 items
