Rare original pre-war 1938 Ariel Red Hunter 500cc fuel tank. Correct for Ariel NH 350cc, VH 500cc, and VB 600cc models, this is one of the most visually recognizable tank styles ever fitted to pre-war British motorcycles and makes an outstanding foundation for a proper restoration or period-correct custom build.

The 1938 Ariel Red Hunter models were among the final pre-war Ariels developed before WWII halted civilian motorcycle production. Ariel’s competition-inspired overhead valve singles earned a reputation for exceptional torque and durability, becoming favorites among British reliability trial riders and long-distance touring enthusiasts throughout the late 1930s.

CONDITION:

This tank remains in solid original condition overall. The exterior finish shows heavy age-related oxidation with substantial paint and chrome loss throughout. Structurally, the shell remains solid with no visible rust-through or rot holes present. There are approximately four dents visible, including two larger dents along the front nose sections and two smaller dings along the upper side ridges. The interior contains heavy storage rust scale and will require cleaning and sealing before active fuel use. The included instrument panel and gauge face show matching age patina, and the original speedometer is not present.
