Here's a cabinetmaker made 1880's American oak high chest with an unusual configuration of 9 drawers. The chest is constructed with a very high grade quarter sawn oak with poplar secondary wood on the drawer bottoms. The well made drawers are joined with square cut nails and have chamfered bottoms. The brass pulls are of a typical stamped design from the late 1800's and are original. The sides of the chest are paneled and also quarter sawn. The back is constructed of beaded boards. The is a very hefty chest of drawers that doesn't appear to have been over used and still retains its original golden oak finish. The dimensions of this late Victorian era chest are 43 inches tall X 35 inches wide X 17.5 inches deep. I can imagine multiple purposes for it in a home and it will certainly last many more lifetimes.
