This is a working Battery Powered Portable Flash Unit from Metz. The battery contacts have some corrosion due to the previous owner leaving batteries in the unit for an extended period. As a result sometimes an intermittent battery connection may prevent operation. It has never been an issue for me, when I used it with my Hasselblad.
