Antique Chinese Qianlong Period 1735 - 96 European Enamel Subject Snuff Box
This is an extremely rare Qianlong period Chinese export Canton / Beijing painted enamel on copper snuff box.
Of rectangular form with rounded corners and blue enamelled sides. The lid is decorated with a European figural scene showing seated figures in a garden setting with animals and architectural details, the sides with landscape panels.
This box is very closely comparable in form, size, colouring and subject matter to a Chinese painted enamel European-subject snuff box sold by Christie’s, New York, in their Chinese Export Art sale, 18 January 2017, Lot 392.
CONDITION missing the rim mounts & hinge, losses to the enamel - as per images
The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.
