Hello and welcome!
spondylidae spondylus regius
Spondylus regius, commonly known as the regal thorny oyster or royal thorny oyster, is a species of bivalve mollusc in the family Spondylidae. First described by Linnaeus in 1758, it is native to the Western Pacific, including the Red Sea, Philippines, Japan, and Coral Sea.
This is a stunningly beautiful collector's seashell from the Spondylidae family. The seashell has a base canvas colour that is a light tan brown. There are plenty of long spurs protruding from the surface of the shell which vary in length. The shell itself has beautiful well defined and distinct ribbed lines and small spurs all over. A very beautiful piece would make a brilliant collector's item. One spur has been broken off and is included in the box. Unable to locate where this came from on the shelf, so an attempt for repair was impossible.
