Top’s Restaurant and Nightclub, located at 2137 Pacific Highway, was a prominent Art Deco landmark in downtown San Diego during the mid-20th century. It was a key entertainment hub on what was formerly U.S. 101, known for hosting renowned artists including Nat King Cole, Shelly Winters, and Nelson Eddy. The venue was a focal point for dinner-club entertainment, primarily driven by proprietor Yale Kahn.
The building is a distinct example of Streamline Art Deco, representing an era when many similar buildings were lost to development along the Pacific Highway. Following its time as a premier nightclub, the building sat vacant and boarded up for many years. Tom Fat later purchased and rehabilitated the venue, a restoration effort that was recognized with an Orchid Award, one of San Diego's highest architectural achievements at the time.
