Antique map of the French South-East Duaphine Region depicting the Bailliages (administrative districts) of pre-revolutionary France, dated 1751. Drawn by Sir Robert, geographer to the king (Louis XV). Robert de Vaugondy (1723–1786) was a prominent 18th-century French cartographer appointed as Geographer to King Louis XV. Alongside his father, Gilles, he produced the Atlas Universel (1757) and was a royal censor for geography and navigation works. Interesting 18th century map with great graphics. Beautifully matted and framed. Frame is 25 3/8" high x 26 1/4" wide, map itself is about 19 1/4" high by 20 1/4" wide. Excellent antique condition, crease down center, as shown.
