Player Notes: RIP Big Red… Walton was part of the generational run of talent in the John Wooden UCLA basketball program. He was a 2x NCAA champion and a 3x All-Tournament player. At UCLA, he averaged an exceptional 20 points and 16 rebounds (!) per game. He was drafted #1 overall in the 1974 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. While injuries ultimately cost him 4 seasons out of his 14 year career, Grateful Red was a dominant defender while on the floor. He was the 1977-78 league MVP.. he won the John Havlicek 6th Man of the Year Award, and was named one of the NBAs 50 Best Players of All Time. He was a 2x All Star and a 2x NBA Champion, winning once with the Trail Blazers and once with the Celtics. He was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1993.
