This item is a Japanese Black Lacquerware covered bowl with matching 5 plates. Matching Gold and Red flower motif on the plates and bowl cover.
The plates are 5 1/4 inches diameter. 3 of them have minor wear (about an inch or so) on the edge; the other 2 no wear showing at all.
The bowl is 6 1/2 inches diameter and about 3 1/2 inches high. Has minor scuff marks on the bottom and sides.
The bowl has Japanese characters on the bottom.
These are 1930's or 1940's era and brought back from Japan by a serviceman after World War II.
