This was a wedding present given to my parents. As a child, I was tasked with polishing stuff like this up for holiday parties. This bowl saw a lot of mashed potatoes back in the 1970's! Now it has a beautifully aged, untouched patina from being stored away in a box. It has developed a natural darkened finish with subtle iridescent “oil slick” tones that give it a rich, moody character you simply can’t replicate with modern finishes--which is why I decided not to polish it up again!
Someone might certainly give polishing a try--there are some liquid polishes that might make fast work of it, who knows. But others might appreciate authentic age and atmosphere/texture/iridescent oil slick look. Its classic pedestal (Revere-style) shape pairs perfectly with gothic, dark academia, or altar-inspired décor--display with candles, crystals, dried florals, or as a statement centerpiece-- it has visual interest from every angle.
