The item

This is a stunning piece of Bohemian-Czech glass history, an Early 20th Century Tango glass posy vase complete with metal frog. It is an iconic masterclass in Art Deco colour contrast. The vibrant, signature 'Tango glass' orange provides a glowing, sunset-like backdrop to five precisely hand-painted, black enamel silhouettes of girls playing with birds and butterflies etc.

It has an ovoid, footed form with a concave base and a hand-applied black line around the base and on the upper rim, revealed when the brass-look flower frog is removed (see images)

The eye catching colours of 'Tango glass' make it a much-collected genre from the Art Deco period and the beautiful drawn silhouettes add to its appeal. Examples of this kind are usually associated with the famous Bohemian brands, Loetz and Kralic, but we cannot say for sure.

Condition

This delightful period piece from the first part of the 20th Century, has survived really well i.e. no chips or cracks. Even the upper and lower rims are free from the usual nibbles found on glassware from this period and the charming silhouettes have escaped any use related scratching.

Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre or on what similar pieces have actually been sold for on the international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things!
