Moore & Wright 7 Drawer Engineers wood Cabinet Chest box

This box came to me direct from it's retired owner. He told me it was given to him as an apprentice by a retiring engineer, making it about 70 years old.

It is M&W model number 1007 dimensions 286 high 432mm long 216mm deep.

The frame of this box is sound. I have photo'd a 1970 M&W catalogue for reference.

Description:

The frame is sound showing no damage. The top shows a layer of muck accumulated over years. The sides are actually very nice and original showing varnish and nice grain. The handle is missing it's leather cover. The  The handle is intact and in good condition, it has been reinforced with small securing blots. The rear panel is coming away  where it has pulled away from it's securing pins.

The runners for the bottom drawer is missing . All the others are present and correct, they may have been replaced. For the photos I put a block under the bottom drawer to show how it should appear in the first photo. Photo 2 shows it with the block removed.

The drawers are all good. The 2nd full length drawer has a bowing at one part of the base. It and the 3rd drawer have evidence of repining of the bases. I have photo'd a message written on one side of a small drawer, an unusual place to leave it! All the drawers have their original knobs still attached.

The lock has been forced at some point damaging the front panel. It has ben replaced by a hasp. The owner's name is on a brass plaque on the front.

In conclusion the three main issues are the missing lock, the missing lower runners and the bowing of one of the drawer bases. I like this box as an honest engineers box in use through the careers of two engineers, now looking for it's next owner. The box could be used as is, or restored.
