UPDATE from another Ebay person who messaged me: "The
bottle is a reproduction of the Simons Centennial Bitters from 1876. It
first appeared on a Clevenger Brothers of New Jersey wholesale price
list from august 1935."
The bottle is about 10.5" tall by about 5" wide at the epaulets. The base is about 4" in diameter. The actual bottom itself is more like 3.5" in diameter (the sort of pedestal/base part balloons out wider than the bottom.)
I do not know the age of the bottle, but I did some checking using AI and got this when I told it the mold seam stops below the neck and the lip has flaws:
"Mold Seam Stopping Below the Neck: A seam that doesn’t extend through the neck indicates a two-part mold, typical of antique bottles (mid-1800s to early 1900s). The neck and lip were hand-finished after molding, often leaving irregularities (e.g., wavy lip, excess glass, or small cracks), which aligns with your mentioned flaw. Implication: This rules out most modern reproductions (e.g., Wheaton 1970s bottles), which typically have seams running through the lip due to fully automated molding."
AI came to this conclusion: "Based on the image and details, this is an antique George Washington Figural Flask (1820s–1860s), likely from Kensington Glass Works or a similar early American glasshouse."
You'll have to decide whether or not you think AI is correct on that.
Here are details that I can see with the naked eye. I am not a glass bottle expert:
There is a very rough pontil mark on the bottom and it is a bit sharp. I see strings or threads of glass on the front and back of the "torso." There is a little bit of seeding, mostly very tiny. The flaw on the lip of the bottle in the front is kind of a smooth cleft-- it does not seem like a crack. Around the inside and outside of the neck, the glass has flaws-- seems to me like the flaws could be from hand work. I did not detect any chips or flakes running my fingers over the bottle or visually.
I did not wash or clean the bottle. It could perhaps stand to be washed-- a little dust here and there. Maybe swish some vinegar on the inside to clean the bit of residue on the bottom.
