DESCRIPTION & COMMENTS
This 1915 Oaxaca 3 Centavos “Corded Edge” issue is a fascinating and highly collectible piece of Mexican Revolutionary-era emergency coinage. Struck in copper during a turbulent period of regional provisional coin production, this example survives in attractive Mint State 62 Red Brown condition with an exceptionally original appearance and far superior eye appeal than typically encountered for the issue. These Oaxaca provisional copper issues are very often found dark, dull, porous, or even environmentally impaired with lifeless surfaces and heavy circulation abuse. By comparison, this piece stands out immediately with noticeably cleaner surfaces, vibrant remaining red color, and a far more attractive overall presentation than normally seen.  Yes, don't be surprised we are looking for some premium for this beauty!

The strike quality is solid for this rugged provisional issue, with bold denomination detail on the reverse and well-defined portrait contours on the obverse. The rustic hand-crafted character of these Oaxaca provisional pieces gives each coin a distinct personality, and this example displays especially pleasing originality with honest, untouched surfaces and no major distractions. The warm copper-red and brown coloration presents beautifully under light and provides a refreshing level of eye appeal rarely associated with this challenging series. Certified by NGC, this is an excellent representative from one of Mexico’s most historically interesting regional coinage series.

We shot two sets of photos with varied lighting.  We do our best to accurately reflect the coin's true genuine look with the goal of taking the mystery out of your purchase!

Note: We used two TrueView photos from PCGS' Certification Site for this exact coin (not the best).
