The large bag is clean and appears to be unused. Heavy burlap. Note that the ink, particularly the red, is off-set and does not match up with the text outline, etc. Original printing issue.
This character is part of the Christmas celebration in the Netherlands. It's a cultural thing unfamiliar to Americans.
Description
Burlap sack with the
figure of Zwarte Piet on the front. Zwarte Piet is dressed in his
traditional attire in red and white colouring; he is also dressed with
gold-hooped earrings, large red lips, and a red hat and feather. Above
the image are the words "Van De Goede Sint" in red embossed lettering.
The lyrics of older traditional Sinterklaas songs, still sung today,
warn that Sinterklaas and his assistant will leave well-behaved children
presents but punish those who have been naughty. They might even take
very poorly behaved children to their homeland of Spain in burlap sacks
where, according to legend, they'll be forced to assist them in their
workshop for an entire season or longer.
