Hello and welcome!

Leporicypraea mappa (Map Cowry)

Leporicypraea mappa, formerly known as Cypraea mappa, is a species of large sea snail commonly called the map cowry. Its name derives from the intricate network of brown lines on its dorsal surface, which resemble ancient geographical maps. The nominal subspecies is Leporicypraea mappa mappa (Linnaeus, 1758).

The shell is typically globose-ovoid, reaching up to 10 cm in length, though most specimens range from 60–90 mm. It features a white or cream background with fine, sinuous brown lines and a distinctive mantle groove. The aperture often displays colorful lips in shades of pink, orange, or purple.
