This throwback-styled Celtics collectible is a 2007 Topps trading card featuring Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics, with a perfect PSA 10 grading. This limited edition card is part of the 'The Missing Years' insert set, designed in a 1964 style reminiscent of Topps baseball cards. It celebrates Russell's 11 NBA championships and is a must-have for collectors looking for vintage basketball memorabilia from one of the greatest players in league history.
Player Notes: I think it would be reasonable to say that anyone with 11 Championship Rings is a legend of whatever sport they happened to play. In this case, Bill Russell certainly earned his spot among the pantheon of greatest basketball players, and greatest competitors of all time. Russell was a dominant college center with the San Francisco Dons. He was a two-time NCAA champion and a two time, first team All American. For his collegiate career, he averaged 20.7 points and 20.3 rebounds per game. He was drafted in the first round, 2nd overall, by the St. Louis Hawks in the 1956 NBA Draft, but was immediately traded to the Boston Celtics for Ed Macauley and Cliff Hagan. This trade arguably altered the history of professional basketball. Russell played 13 seasons with Boston making the All-Rookie team in his first year, then making the All-Star team the next 12 seasons in a row before retiring. Amazingly, he received MVP votes in 12 of his 13 seasons and won the MVP of the NBA five times. Consistent with his nickname, it is also quite noteworthy that he won NBA championships in 11 of his 13 seasons, hence ‘Mr. 11 Rings’. For his career, he averaged 15 points and 22 rebounds per game. His career rebounding total of 21,620 is second most in NBA history in spite of his relatively short career. He was known as much for his defense as for his leadership skills, and his career Defensive Win Shares of 133.6 is the best in NBA history. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1975.
