About the Signers

Jimi Hendrix (1942–1970)

Born James Marshall Hendrix in Seattle, Washington, Jimi Hendrix is widely regarded as the single greatest and most influential electric guitarist in the history of popular music. A former paratrooper, Hendrix spent the early 1960s as a sideman backing artists like Little Richard and the Isley Brothers before being discovered in a New York City club by Animals bassist Chas Chandler, who brought him to London in September 1966. There, alongside Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, he formed The Jimi Hendrix Experience and took the British music scene by storm. His explosive debut at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival — where he famously set his guitar ablaze — made him an overnight sensation in America. In just four years as a headlining artist, Hendrix released three landmark studio albums with the Experience, headlined Woodstock in 1969, and fundamentally redefined what the electric guitar could do. He died in London on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

Mitch Mitchell (1946–2008)

John Graham “Mitch” Mitchell was born in Ealing, Middlesex, England. A jazz-influenced drummer of extraordinary dexterity, Mitchell won his spot in the Experience after a legendary coin-toss audition against Aynsley Dunbar in October 1966. His fast, inventive, polyrhythmic style was the perfect complement to Hendrix’s revolutionary guitar work, and he played on all three Experience studio albums as well as the posthumous releases. Mitchell remained with Hendrix after Redding’s departure, performing at Woodstock and throughout the 1970 Cry of Love Tour. Rolling Stone ranked him the 8th greatest drummer of all time in 2016. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 as a member of the Experience. Mitchell died on November 12, 2008, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 62.

Noel Redding (1945–2003)

David Noel Redding was born in Folkestone, Kent, England. Originally a guitarist, Redding switched to bass when Chandler recruited him for the Experience in late 1966 — Hendrix was reportedly as impressed by Redding’s wild hairstyle as by his knowledge of blues progressions. As the Experience’s bassist, Redding provided a distinctive, trebly, pick-driven sound on all three studio albums. He departed the band in June 1969 and later relocated to Clonakilty, Ireland, where he continued to perform. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 alongside Hendrix and Mitchell. Redding died on May 11, 2003, at the age of 57.

Why This Piece Matters

Complete band-signed copies of Are You Experienced are exceptionally scarce. Hendrix’s tragically short life — he died at just 27, only three years after this album’s release — severely limits the pool of authentic signatures in circulation. Finding all three Experience members’ autographs on the same cover of their iconic debut, with a personal inscription from Hendrix himself, represents a museum-quality cornerstone piece for any serious rock and roll or autograph collection. Items of this caliber are considered among the most sought-after in all of music memorabilia.

Display Recommendation: Professional archival framing with UV-protected museum glass is strongly recommended to preserve this piece for generations.
