Universal Meter Box Repair Hinge

If your meter box hinge has failed — even if it’s tight, flush or damaged — this will help you get your door back in the box.

Designed to fit even awkward installs – tight angles, flush-mounted doors, damaged hinge areas, and meter boxes mounted close to brickwork.  Unique compliant-flex-hinge allows for even unusual angles to be supported. v2 now even stronger - thanks to early customers for feedback!  If you've got a particularly heavy door - might be worth still adding two, one at the top and one at the bottom.
Designed to work with almost all UK gas & electric meter boxes, recessed, surface-mounted and flush installations - can even be brick mounted for if there isn't enough room on the side.

If your hinge has failed, this will work, re-use the existing door securely.  No more having to replace the whole box with electrician and potential grid costs.
No more gaffer tape keeping your meter safe and secure!

Why this hinge is different

Most broken meter box doors are a pain to repair because the original hinge points have failed, the box is mounted tight to a wall, or there simply isn’t enough clearance for a conventional repair.

I designed this hinge specifically to solve that problem. Instead of relying on the original hinge points, it uses flat fixing plates, a flexible central hinge section, and multiple mounting positions so it can be installed in places where other repair options struggle.

Key benefits

Universal fit  Designed to adapt to many common meter box doors and frames rather than depend on one or two exact hinge layout.
Works in tight spaces Can be fitted where the door is close to brickwork or mounted at awkward angles.
Ideal for flush-mounted boxes A great option for doors that sit very close to the wall and leave little clearance for traditional repairs.
Self-tapping screws included Designed to be installed with self-tapping screws so that unusual angles can be supported
Adjustable fixing positions Multiple holes allow you to choose the best position and work around damaged original mounting points.
Saves replacing the whole box A quick, tidy, cost-effective repair that avoids the hassle and expense of changing the full enclosure.

Perfect for awkward real-world repairs

This repair hinge is especially useful where:

  • the original hinge has worn away, rusted or blown off in the wind.
  • the box door sits tight against brick or render
  • the door is flush-mounted and clearance is limited
  • the original fixing area is cracked, damaged, or no longer usable
  • you want a neat repair instead of having to get an electrician to replace the complete meter box front

Simple fitting process

1. Position the hinge across the door and frame.
2. Select the most suitable fixing holes for your installation.
3. Pre drill small pilot hole, secure with suitable self-tapping screws.
4. Restore smooth opening and closing without replacing the full box.

A practical value-based repair

Replacing an entire meter box door or front panel can be expensive, awkward, and completely unnecessary when the real problem is just the hinge.

This repair gives you a straightforward fix that is quick to install, neat once fitted, and designed around the kinds of awkward installations people actually have on their homes.

Multiple hinges can be combined on installations where the door is damaged and multiple points of contact are needed.

Ideal for DIY repairs, trades and Landlords or property managers who need to make every penny count.  (discounts on multi buy - we know you'll need several sometimes!)
