This is a vintage hand-painted ceramic owl figurine, standing 12.7 cm (5 inches) tall. Acquired from an Indigenous Art Auction at the Gardner Galleries, located in London Ontario. The design features incised geometric patterns and painted eyes and beak in red over a dark brown-black base. The figure is hollow underneath, with no maker’s mark or artist signature present. While the style is reminiscent of Canadian folk art or possibly Indigenous/ceramic studio traditions, the exact origin is unknown.
