This print depicts the globular cluster NGC 6558, a glittering dense collection of tens of thousands of stars located about 23,000 light years away toward the center of the Milky Way in the constellation Sagittarius. The Hubble Space Telescope observation reveals a crowded field of stars in a rich variety of hues with several bright stars showing prominent diffraction spikes from the telescope optics.
