Wonderful old 18 inch doll by Helen W. Jensen named Gladdie. Can be boy or girl. 

Marked on the back of head GLADDIE --Copyright by Helen W. Jensen--Germany. 

Designer: Helen Webster Jensen, who was a sculptor and student at the Art Institute of Chicago. around 1925 and was produced by German doll makers, often commissioned by George Borgfeldt. 

Materials: Originals typically feature a bisque (unglazed porcelain) or "biscaloid" head with composition limbs and a stuffed cloth body with a cry box that doesn`t work

Features: Gladdie is known for her distinctive happy, smiling face with a row of sculpted upper teeth and a tongue tip. She typically has blue glass "sleep" eyes that open and close.and molded hairwith a defined forelock curl, 

Wonderful Rare Antique 1929 German Biscaloid Gladdie Character Doll Designed By Artist Helen Webster Jensen.This sweet face Gladdie doll is 18" (45cm) tall.

Her Biscaloid head is in very nice condition.

It has no breaks, repairs or hairlines,that I can see,but a few marks to the head,one cheek and side of the head at hair. 

She has the cutest face.She is laughing so hard she will have you laughing.A wide smile makes you smile back!!

She will bring you lots of Joy every time you look at her

She is a harder to find character doll & very sought after.

Her issue is her composition limbs, The composition is cracking, crazing & lifting in places.She could use some restoring on her limbs,if you should chose

She wears a vintage white & blue puckered dress and underneath she wears cotton panties..Her socks & white shoes are newer replacements.

Purchased from the second owner a local fellow doll collector that curated a museum in her home,for local school children up until the 1980`s The dolls were displayed behind glass andhave been stored now for years
