Up for auction is a beautiful antique 4/4 (full-size) acoustic violin, likely of German or Bohemian origin, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. This instrument is a prime candidate for restoration, featuring high-quality tonewoods and several desirable vintage accessories.
Key Features & Construction:
One-Piece Back: Unlike common two-piece trade violins, this instrument features a stunning single-piece maple back with prominent horizontal "tiger-stripe" flaming.
Varnish: The original reddish-brown spirit varnish shows a fine "crazing" texture throughout, consistent with an authentic 100+ year age.
Scroll & Fittings: Hand-carved scroll Includes a full set of ebony tuning pegs, one featuring a decorative mother-of-pearl eye.
Included Accessories:
Vintage Bow: A full-size wood bow (appears to be brazilwood) featuring an ebony frog with a mother-of-pearl slide inlay. Note: Needs professional rehairing.
Becker's "North Star" Chin Rest: A rare, vintage side-mounted ebony chin rest stamped with the "Becker's North Star" maker's mark.
Mutes: Includes one heavy metal practice mute and one rubber Tourte-style mute.
Tailpiece & Bridge: Original ebony tailpiece and a maple bridge blank are included (currently detached).

The violin is currently disassembled (bridge and tailpiece are off).
The varnish shows significant "crazing" and wear from age, adding to its antique character.
The soundpost is solid .
The bow is missing hair and requires a standard rehairing.
No open seams or major cracks were observed upon visual inspection, but a full professional setup is recommended for playability.
Shipping & Handling:
The violin will be packed with extreme care. The violin will besecured inside its case, which is then suspended in a heavy-duty shipping box with ample padding. Note: Bridge and tailpiece will be wrapped separately to prevent scratches to the varnish during transit.
