The item

If you like pure, authentic Art Deco this four-piece 1930s American coffee percolator set definitely has the 'look'. 

It is fashioned out of strong steel with shiny chrome finish simple machine turned decoration around the edges; and it stunning amber and black Bakelite handles. It was manufactured as a functional piece of electrical equipment, but the design is all about the Jazz Age, the Machine Age and New York inspired Art Deco A fabulous period piece.

The set comprises a plug-in percolator with a tap and a classic glass knob to enable users to lift the lid when hot; a coffee jug; and a cleverly combined milk jug and sugar bowl with handles (i.e. one sits inside the other...see images).

It was produced under the Farberware brand by S W Farber Inc in Brooklyn, New York and designed to run on the US 120 volts system. The company is still in business producing kitchenware and is in its 126th year. It is a well-known brand for coffee percolators, offering both electric and stovetop models known for their durability and traditional brewing style. They are designed to produce hot, strong coffee using a stainless steel construction.

Condition

This wonderful set is only a few years away from genuine antique status and yet the chrome and Bakelite are in excellent condition. However, this set doesn't come with a connection cable and, although we have no percolator experience, we suspect that there are some inner bits and pieces missing in the percolator. It is being sold for display as a superb example of high-end American Art Deco. However, it's possible, presumably, for a skilled electrician to restore it to its former glory, and convert it to work outside the US if necessary (?), given that the manufacturer is still a going concern.

Pricing

Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre or on what similar pieces have actually been sold for on the international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things!

This is a difficult item to price because it is so rare. We can only find one other like it on-line in the US, which comes with a matched (not matching) tray and it is priced at well over £600. We are offering this set at around a third of that price.

You will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between auction and professional dealer prices and we are always willing to consider realistic offers.
