About the American Hazelnut:
Hazelnut is a suckering, native deciduous shrub in the Betulaceae family, reaching 9–12 feet at maturity. It produces ½-inch brown nuts enclosed in a hairy, leaf-like husk, typically ripening from September to October. Female plants produce red flowers, while males have yellowish-brown catkins. For best nut production, plant multiple shrubs to allow cross-pollination, as they are not self-fertile. This is one of the easiest nut trees to grow!
