Here is a rough looking lower unit…
but it shifts smooth by hand,
turns properly in gears,
lower unit oil was actually pretty clean (see pics)
Prop is decent (will include the little bolt on skeg not pictured)
++++++
This was our backup parts outboard but swapped to a 4-stroke. The engine was great at 150 psi, and the outboard was freshwater, just was left outside, lower in the water… typical up here!

This is sold as a parts unit mainly cause of the cosmetic condition. It is ugly - corrosion, growth, rusty shaft, skeg is bent a bit… but it looks solid.
No cracks or repairs.
There is no way to warranty or test it on an engine.

This is perfect to get on the water. Get a broken engine back running to sell it or use quickly. It could be great, or it could at least get you through the season. It is a gamble!
It may also be good to rebuild. But as stated, the basic tests seem like it could bolt on with minimal tuning - oil and impeller mainly.
A wire wheel or sand blaster and it would look much better!
Water pump impeller is untested.
