1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire Souvenir Dollar, design of HK-340-342.  Copper with a reeded edge.  As this has seen use as a pocket piece, it is very difficult to determine exactly which HK number to assign.  All of the HK-340A Silver-plated pieces appear to be struck on a Copper planchet (or a close alloy), based upon worn examples I have seen over the years.  However, this example does not show any sign of Silvering, even in well protected areas where it would still hide out.  It does however show what appears to be remnants of Copper-colored plating, similar to "antiquing" done on any number of period pieces.  This is best seen under the word "SAN" on the California St. side.  NGC has assigned HK-342A to previously unlisted Copper examples, without a notation of "Antiqued".  There are also looped pieces issued in Copper with Silver-plating, however these are plain edged - additionally this shows no signs of a removed loop.  If I remember correctly, I have seen one or two of these before, similarly circulated.  So, offered here as a bit of a SCD mystery, for someone's Winter project.  Price is of course speculative, but should be reasonable for interested parties.  A note regarding S&H: ebay requires me to ship with Tracking; the cost shown is generally below my actual cost for that service.   1013-89

The Boilerplate (read at your option, but it helps):

NO AI.  I write my own descriptions and know what I am talking about – unlike a lot of ebay “dealers” who use the tech to give you a description that blathers on and says NOTHING about whatever they happen to be selling.

Actual item shown.  All raw (uncertified) coins are guaranteed genuine, in perpetuity, backed by our firm’s 80+ years in the business, plus all the industry “garden salad” (PCGS, CAC, NGC, ANACS, ANA, etc., etc.).  Grades stated for uncertified coins are based upon my 35+ years experience and are typically based upon those used by PCGS.  However no actual specific “number” can be guaranteed should a coin be submitted for grading by any service, as their standards are based upon market rather than technical grading, and even they do not necessarily agree (which is why CAC exists).

Grading is one thing – a customer’s opinion of quality is another and may differ from my own.  Unlike many other dealers I understand this reality.  For that reason I have no problem with accepting a return within the listed return period, for which I pay.  If you have an issue for any reason with anything you purchase from me, feel free to contact me to work out a reasonable solution for both of us.

I am happy to combine shipping for multiple items, typically by refunding the excess after shipping.  Ebay has made it too difficult to combine shipping prior to payment due to policy changes regarding non-paying buyers.

If you have any questions, please email. Please note our hours below and if needed contact us at least 24 hours before close of listing. Buy or Bid with confidence: we have a heritage to 1937, and loads of good eBay Feedback, where I have been selling since 1997. Good Luck & Good Hunting! Tipsico Coin, Mon.- Fri. 10 AM - 4 PM MST.
