Souvenir $50 Gold Slug Facsimile struck for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition at San Francisco. The general design listed as HK-424, however this die specifically listed as SH 18-30, the "Design Patent Right" variety, in Shevlin's new reference. Struck in Bronze, however gold-plated similar to the more common SH 18-31 (the "Pat. Left" type). A gold-plated variety of SH 18-30 is not currently listed in the Shevlin text, however personal communication with Jeff indicates that he is changing his thinking about the matter, and is likely to add or change the listing, based upon further research. Die signed Irving & Jachens, Choice Almost Uncirculated, no significant wear, mainly a loss of gilt and some minor edge marks, probably just from storage. The small rough area at the "PPIE" logo is due to a weak strike, which seems typical of this type. SH 18-30 is listed in Shevlin's guide as an R-8, surface composition/plating not withstanding. Value would be a bit speculative, however the Bronze SH 18-30 is shown as $700 in AU, $900 in MS-60. Please note that due to value this will require shipping with Signature Confirmation, hence the S&H shown. 1013-05
The Boilerplate (read at your option, but it helps):
NO AI. I write my own descriptions and know what I am talking about – unlike a lot of ebay “dealers” who use the tech to give you a description that blathers on and says NOTHING about whatever they happen to be selling.
Actual item shown. All raw (uncertified) coins are guaranteed genuine, in perpetuity, backed by our firm’s 80+ years in the business, plus all the industry “garden salad” (PCGS, CAC, NGC, ANACS, ANA, etc., etc.). Grades stated for uncertified coins are based upon my 35+ years experience and are typically based upon those used by PCGS. However no actual specific “number” can be guaranteed should a coin be submitted for grading by any service, as their standards are based upon market rather than technical grading, and even they do not necessarily agree (which is why CAC exists).
Grading is one thing – a customer’s opinion of quality is another and may differ from my own. Unlike many other dealers I understand this reality. For that reason I have no problem with accepting a return within the listed return period, for which I pay. If you have an issue for any reason with anything you purchase from me, feel free to contact me to work out a reasonable solution for both of us.
I am happy to combine shipping for multiple items, typically by refunding the excess after shipping. Ebay has made it too difficult to combine shipping prior to payment due to policy changes regarding non-paying buyers.
If you have any questions, please email. Please note our hours below and if needed contact us at least 24 hours before close of listing. Buy or Bid with confidence: we have a heritage to 1937, and loads of good eBay Feedback, where I have been selling since 1997. Good Luck & Good Hunting! Tipsico Coin, Mon.- Fri. 10 AM - 4 PM MST.
