1979 American Bank Note Company Opening of the West Archives Series "Gold Rush Days" Engravings 

Includes the original portfolio booklet titled "Gold Rush Days" and seven archival intaglio engravings from original ABN plates, mounted in the booklet. (Engravings are not glued or hinged, mounted with little acetate corner holders, and are in mint condition.) The engravings included are SCCS Catalog numbers SOW-1a to SOW-1g. Gorgeous engraved scenes of James Marshall discovering gold, vignette of Deadwood City, two stock certificates, including a Michigan piece. Booklet has some light wear and bends, but these do not affect the seven engravings. 

In collaboration with Time-Life Books in 1979, American Bank Note Co. created a series of portfolios entitled "The Opening of the West". Ten large portfolio booklets (13" x 11") and an introduction booklet were printed, which were housed in a foil-embossed faux-leather box. The ten portfolios all had different themes, such as "Gold Rush Days", "The Iron Horse", and "Lumberjacks". Each came with six or seven intaglio prints, meant to be affixed on the pages using clear corner mounts. These included historical vignettes and reprints of obsolete banknotes, stock certificates, and ephemera.

  • International buyers please note: Shipping internationally is expensive from the USA. It is calculated by the USPS. I will combine multiple items into one package, but you must wait for an invoice! Please do not bid if the shipping price is not acceptable. 1-8 ounces is $14.50. 8-10 ounces is $20.00, 10-16 ounces is $25.00. These are the actual charges from USPS, we DO NOT make money from shipping, we actually lose money!

  • Combined shipping cost will be offered for multiple items won – please wait for invoice before paying, or if specific shipping method or insurance is requested.

  • Multiple items will be shipped together in one package; large stocks and bonds may be shipped folded along existing fold lines.

  • All packages will be shipped with certificates placed in plastic sleeves with cardboard backing and marked “Do Not Bend”.
