Condition:
This camera is remarkably clean. Body, exterior, film compartment, battery compartment, optics and viewfinder is all clean and free of major dings or scratches. Film gate appears very clean as well. Only normal use wear from such a relatively old camera.
There is an engraving on the top plate: it reads "B.U SPC 61"
I'm not fully certain, but it's very possible this camera once belonged to Boston University, School of Public Communications at some point.
This particular camera model was manufactured and marketed starting in 1971.
Functional and Mechanical Condition:
All major features tested and working. Film motor, zoom motor, auto exposure all seems to work fine in all frame rates and modes.
However - the camera (like many cameras of this age) has some small quirks. The main quirk I've found with certain types of Super 8 cartridges, the film advance will occasionally "glitch" a little bit resulting in a little stuttering over a few frames. This typically does not happen during longer takes lasting more than a couple of seconds, but rather when the camera is coming up to, and winding down from frame rate speed.
I suspect it might be from the sprocket teeth slipping or film tension not being ideal - but regardless, the camera does run exceptionally well apart from this occasional glitch.
I have found that a few firm, but not too hard taps with a flat palm against the camera body knocks something back into alignment and it runs perfectly fine.
However - for many filmmakers choosing Super 8 as a format in these times, this can be a desirable and cool effect that can add to your project.
I have owned this camera for approximately 10 years and have shot a dozen or so rolls through it in that time.
I have kept fresh batteries, prevented corrosion, kept the glass clean and regularly dusted out the gate and film compartment with compressed air. However, it may benefit from a deeper service if desired.
