He started the 2025 season at AAA as expected, but the breakout continued… so when Bregman went down with an injury, Mayer was called up to be the new Sox starting third baseman. Early results were promising, but a wrist injury ended his season prematurely. He played in 44 MLB games and delivered positive WAR with 12 extra base hits and an elite glove. Now, with the team bringing on Caleb Durbin to play third, Marcelo again showed his versatility by shifting seamlessly to Second.
