The Jeff Rowland Design Group Cadence phono preamplifier is an exquisite looking and sounding piece of audio excellence.  With it's shiny silver faceplate it looks like a piece of jewelry in the system.  The Cadence was designed to operate as a phono section for the Coherence II or Synergy preamps.  The included power supply was custom made to Jeff Rowland's design for operation as a stand alone phono section.  It is NOT a factory power supply, but made to factory specifications.  It is a Moving Coil only design, low output cartridges only!  No option for a Moving Magnet design.  This piece was installed in the owner's system about 18 years ago, and has served him reliably since new.  Time has marched on and he is forced to downsize his life, including the audio system.  The Cadence and power supply are part of that downsize.  Internals photo is taken from the HiFi Advice review.

The HFA review of this piece of gear concluded with this:
" feel that Jeff Rowland preamps and amps possess some kind of magic. A quality that makes them more majestic than most other amps. And with the Cadence, this is no different.

One thing to keep in mind: the Cadence is absolutely not sterile, clinical or gray but it is so utterly free from artifice that in systems that are already polite, it may sound too tidy or restrained. Some systems actually need some added grunt or zing to sound lively. The Cadence will simply never sound aggressive. And if partnered with a lightweight sounding turntable, like the Thorens we used, the bass can lack some grunt.

Things to keep in mind about the Cadence

For starters, it has no power supply. It normally runs on a secondary outlet on the powersupply of a Rowland Coherence or Synergy. There was an optional powersupply but it too is very rare.

Second, it has only balanced inputs and outputs. Cartridges are balanced by nature but you need the right cables to actually use them this way. Because of this, some cartridges are easy to connect balanced, some need to be modified and others can only be be used in single ended mode. This is also how we used the Cadence. We used Cardas cinch to XLR adapters (supplied with the Cadence) but you could also just solder new XLR connectors to your turntable leads. Even with these extra contact transitions, and not even running balanced, the Cadence amazed us. Imagine how it may sound when driven balanced!"

This item will be taken to the UPS store near the owner's home and professionally packed once bids have been received.  A very rough estimate of packing and shipping charges will start at $50 and probably not exceed $75.  Boxes and packing are expensive.  The owner is pretty sure he has all the accessories that came with the unit, but has not located everything yet, just the pieces pictured and the manual so far.

Ask questions as needed, this is a very rare and compact piece of high quality gear that has been the pride of his turntable based system for years.  Make it the same in yours!
