The idea of "whistle buttons" was that the unsightly thread would be hidden within the button.
Brilliant idea….but apparently did not stick. More labor to make, more labor to sew on too.
NBS defines a whistle as having one hole on top and two or more on the reverse.
The bottom holes must not be fully visible from top view.
