Hand signed 4x6 inch photo by World War II partisan fighter, Moshe Baran. Moshe Baran was a Holocaust survivor and Jewish partisan who fought against Nazi Germany during World War II. Born in 1920 in Horodok, Poland—a predominantly Jewish shtetl—he survived the Nazi occupation by joining a partisan group in the forests of Eastern Europe.

In 1941, after the Nazis invaded his hometown, Moshe and his family were confined to a ghetto. He was sent to work on railroad construction, where he and friends smuggled gun parts from a warehouse by hiding them in rags. Using these weapons, he escaped the ghetto with a friend and joined a partisan encampment. He played a key role in organizing resistance, helping to rescue his mother, brother, and sister, and later recovering weapons dropped by Soviet planes.

Moshe remained with the partisans until 1944, when Soviet forces liberated the region. He was then drafted into the Soviet Army but used his bookkeeping skills to serve as a treasurer’s assistant, avoiding front line combat. After the war, he settled in the United States in 1950.
