were written by Harry T. Peters, this is the Reprint Edition of 1976 by Arno
Press. These hardcovers are 12-¼” high
by 9-¼” wide:
Volume 1 has
333 pages and 142 plates
Volume 2 has
405 pages and 177 plates.
These books
are in VG condition, there is some discoloring to the covers and foxing to the
edges of both volumes, there is a corner crease on 1 page otherwise these are
nice copies.
Volume 1:
Originally published in 1929. “A
chronicle of the firm, and of the artists and their work, with notes on
collecting; reproductions of 142 of the prints and originals, forming a
pictorial record of American life and manners in the last century; and a
checklist of all known prints published by N. Currier and Currier & Ives.”
Volume 2:
Originally published in 1931. “A review
of selected groups of the prints, consisting of further notes on their
production and rarity, and on new developments, completing the chronicle of the
firm, and notes on the lives and times revealed in the prints, giving a glimpse
into the greater chronicle of the American people, with reproductions of 177
prints, 24 in color, and 1600 newly discovered titles to be added to the
checklist, here corrected and completed to date.”
