Rare Antique Japanese Satsuma “Taniguchi” Pottery Plate “Wisteria” - MINT

For your purchasing consideration is this STUNNING antique Japanese Satsuma pottery plate from the Meiji period, featuring a hand-painted wisteria design with gold accents and a geometric border.  This plate dates to the Japanese Meiji period of 1868 to 1912. This plate is in MINT condition, no cracks, chips, crazing, or missing gold trim.

This plate features intricate wisteria flowers and foliage in purple and green enamel. It is made from earthenware with a characteristic ivory crackle glass.  This piece is hallmarked on the bottom and signed.  It measures 5.5” round.

 

Taniguchi (often identified as Taniguchi Komakichi, (1873–1925) was a renewed Japanese potter and artist active during the last Maiji and Taisho periods, known for producing high-quality Satsuma-style earthenware, including tea sets and vases. His work is characterized by fine, hand-painted details, often featuring gold, colorful enamels, and traditional Japanese motifs.

We are going through boxes from my parents.  This amazing plate has been packed away for 30 years.  We are downsizing to a smaller home, and our kids are not interested. This lovely Wisteria plate is looking for a new home, and I hope it’s with you!
