This truck was bought from Newmarket and driven back to Shropshire in October 2022, I then spent that entire winter on the project as a hobby, removing all the heavy tailgate and springs, stall dividers, rubber matting and stripping out the interior. I had one of these 508's as Motocross transport through the seventies and eighties, tramping all over Europe - so this was a trip down memory lane and a lot of fun.
It is now liveable, but basic, still needing a hot water system.
Mechanical bits done include new front tyres and tubes (the other four rears are in "as new" tread condition), new rear engine mountings, new front brake shoes, new German wheel trims, new clutch slave cylinder, rear mudguards reinforced, new mudflaps fitted, new rear light unit, back-end panelled in new chequer plate and various other electrical bits and bobs.
Living space features large double bed over cab with "stairway to heaven" for access. All interior lined out with carpet tiles. New flooring throughout. Fitted sink/drainer with cold water supply (hot tap option), two-ring cooker with gas bottle beneath and cold water supply bottle alongside. Electric water pump and electric charging to leisure battery from 240 volt hook-up also supplying 4 x 13 amp sockets.
12 volt strip lighting from leisure battery. Portaloo in toilet cubicle, (cleaned, empty and prepped with blue), with wash-basin/vanity unit and mirror.
The back space is a lounge/bedroom with new tall single wardrobe/cupboard and new rock and roll bed settee. New roller blinds are fitted, so you can use this space as you wish. The bed/settee is free standing and is a normal domestic item.
I have driven this about 600 miles and it's totally reliable, if a touch slow. Will cruise at 50 mph all day once rolling, but I'd forgotten what these old trucks were like back then with no power steering and a pretty loud sound track.
This is perfect for rallies. festivals, a home from home or guest accommodation.
There are no known faults to speak of other than the odometer on the tacho does not rack up the miles. It currently shows 174,000 kms but never increases. I therefore can only guess at true mileage and estimate 150,00 miles. based on old MOT's. It seems to use about one litre of oil every 150 miles or so (no leaks, just uses it). This has improved with use. Oil pressure is fantastic (75 on start up, 45 when ticking over hot). Water temperature runs really cool - you can put your finger in the rad. after a trip with no trouble.
I could go on forever, and have probably forgotten something. so feel free to message me on Ebay if you wish to take a look, and I'll run you round the block. She's all taxed and insured. I have been negotiating with DVLA to have body type changed to "Motorhome" but as it stands, it still states "Livestock Carrier" on the V5. That is no problem, it was a class 4 MOT last time.
it weighs around 5 tons, so an early licence works, or C1 modern licence category
The sale will run, with no Buy it Now or offers.
If you wish to inspect it, this weekend would be perfect. I have hospital and doctor commitments early next week.
Thanks for looking.
