Nike are continuing its tradition of celebrating Jackie Robinson’s legacy with a special edition of the Griffey 2 MCS baseball cleats. This release pays tribute to Robinson’s groundbreaking impact on Major League Baseball, marking his role as the first African American player to break the league’s colour barrier in 1947.
The cleat’s design is replete with meaningful details. The upper is constructed from crisp white leather and features the number ‘42’ prominently displayed in the distinct typography of all 30 MLB teams – symbolising Robinson’s league-wide influence. Matte silver accents appear on the forefoot, tongue, and medial sides, adding a refined contrast. Meanwhile, Ken Griffey Jr.’s signature Swingman logo is embroidered on the heel, merging the legacies of two baseball icons. The insoles also feature ‘42,’ reinforcing the homage to Robinson.
