Gorgeous set of 11 dinner plates made by Wedgwood for Higgins & Seiter of NYC. I was unable to date the specific Wedgwood mark (there are also some red handwritten code numbers) but Higgins & Seiter was the premiere store for fine china and glassware from 1900-1925, so that allows me to date these plates accurately. Special patterns from fine china and porcelain manufacturers around the world were commissioned specifically to be sold at this store.
These plates are pure white porcelain and have a thick gilt band around the edge with a black floral garland on top, and elaborate gilt filigree around the flange. I was unable to find the pattern elsewhere on ebay or on Replacements Ltd.
The plates measure 10 1/2" in diameter and are all in excellent condition with no chips or cracks except for one which has a tiny shallow flake on the foot; and one that has a couple of tiny faint gray scuff marks in the center. A few of the plates have blue dots on the back which are obviously a manufacturing mark of some kind. There are also occasional tiny rubs in the gilt, but these rubs must have happened during storage and handling; there are very few utensil marks on any of the plates so I don't believe they were used much, if at all. None of these small issues are noticeable. Truly a beautiful old set!
