Swiss Infantry painting
by Albert Von Escher
A rare and sought after work by this famous Swiss Artist.
Albert von Escher (20 May 1833 – 16 May 1905) was a captain in the Swiss Army and became famous for his watercolours of military subjects.
This example shows Infantry of 1819, at Frobourg in Switzerland.
The difficulty now arises on whether this is an original drawing / watercolour painting, or an original but still highly valuable, period hand coloured Lithograph. There is the signature of the artist in the right hand corner.
Several art experts have viewed, but with no conclusive outcome as to exactly which of the two options it is. I personally think it is hand painted over a lithograph, but if so I have never seen one carrying the artists signature.
I am therefore being cautious and listing as a much sought after 19th century hand coloured lithograph. Should I get a firm attribution or conclusive decision, I will then amend this listing and my asking price..
The image measures 24cm by 17cm.
This is one of several I have, some with just their mount card, others framed. This is framed but the frame is in poor condition, but for now helps protects the art work.
