Player Notes: I suspect you already know, because Stockton was so good, for so long, that his success became a core part of NBA History. In other words, if one was providing a complete history of the NBA, and had to do it in an hour, Stockton would be mentioned, and prominently. Stockton was drafted by the Utah Jazz out of Gonzaga in the first round, 16th overall, in the 1984 NBA Draft. He spent 3 seasons as a back up point guard, then started for 16 seasons, in which he was an All Star 10 times, received MVP votes 12 times, and was an All-NBA defender 6 times. He also lead the league in assists 9 times. By the time he retired, he was in the top 60 all time in points, he is 1st all time in assists, 1st all time in steals, top 25 in true shooting percentage, top 60 in free throws, top 50 in player efficiency ratio, top 10 in win shares, top 5 in value over replacement player, and actually, the list goes on and on. He was inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.
