Antique Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company beer bottle marked for the Norfolk, Virginia branch, dating to the pre-Prohibition golden age of American brewing (circa 1895–1915). Schlitz was the largest beer producer in the world by the early 1900s, and branch-marked bottles like this were issued only to specific distribution cities. Norfolk was one of the most important Atlantic port and Navy supply hubs in the United States, making this a highly desirable regional brewery piece. The bottle is made of thick aqua glass and is embossed with the Schlitz name and branch registration marking, a security measure used to prevent theft and unauthorized reuse during the era when breweries owned their bottles. Most bottles of this type were destroyed during Prohibition, making surviving examples especially scarce today. This piece shows honest wear from more than a century of use, including interior haze and exterior scuffing, but retains strong embossing and a beautiful early-glass color. There are no cracks or major damage, making it an excellent display example for collectors of antique beer, brewery advertising, or Virginia history. A true piece of American brewing history from one of the most iconic names in beer.
