PACIFIC MINE
* William Randolph Hearst - Historic Mine
Pinos Altos, New Mexico, USA
* NOTE - Over the years that I have been collecting at this site, I have found many specimens of Gold Ore, often with visible Gold. Many times I have cut into specimens and found really nice visible Gold. The Ore is rich and has a variety of metals and minerals. While I will NOT guarantee you will find this Native Gold .. it is possible .. that is why I offer 5 pound lots in my eBay shop .. for those who want to crush, slice or look for Native Gold ...
George Hearst, a 19th-century mining tycoon, invested heavily in the Pinos Altos mining district near Silver City, New Mexico, during the late 1880s and 1890s. He purchased major properties, including the Mina Grande and the Pacific Mine (which featured the Hearst, Gillett, and Thayer shafts). Hearst also built a stamp mill in 1889 and connected his operations to a smelter via a local railroad. The Pacific Mine (and its associated shafts) and the Mina Grande were central to his efforts. The area was known for gold, silver, copper, and lead mining, with the town originating around 1860. In 1889, Hearst built a stamp mill. He also established the Silver City, Pinos Altos and Mogollon Railroad to transport ore to his smelter, Silver City Reduction Works. Gold, Silver, Copper, Platinum, and other mineral and metals are found in this Pacific Mine Ore. This is truly a historic specimen and not found in many collections!
