The Bank of the United States, technically a state bank operating under the Pennsylvania Charter, issued this demand note. This variety is not listed in Haxby. The bank’s headquarters in Philadelphia is flanked by portraits of six prominent American figures in the end panels, and a small vignette of the Pennsylvania coat of arms is located at the bottom center. This note has serial number 10 and a red stamp on the left end indicating that a dividend had been paid out under court order in 1850 as part of the liquidation process.
