It is a good idea to provide shells that are about 1/8" to 1/4" larger than the current home to give your crab ample room to grow.
Please see last image for Shell Size & Fit Guide. Shell sizes are listed by approximate opening diameter, measured across the widest part of the shell opening. Because shells are natural and hand-painted, slight variations in shape and thickness are normal. Hermit crabs often prefer to choose from several options rather than a single “perfect” fit, so offering a range of sizes is encouraged. If your crab is between sizes, sizing up is usually best. Photos show typical examples, but each shell will have its own unique character.
*Important: Shell sizes are approximate. Hermit crabs naturally test and reject shells, so offering multiple options is recommended. If you are looking for a very specific size opening, please reach out and I will happily take a closer measure for you.
