1984 / 1985 Yamaha YZ125 / YZ250 Tank Motocross - WhiteGiven its age, the condition and whiteness is pretty good, partially restored, got it fairly whaite but rather than continuing, maybe best to sell to an owner of a YZ2500 who can either use it as is or get it whiter/ better still. Its of no real use to me.Would imagine decent ones of these are quite hard to find now. Bikes this old (and spares in certain cases) are pretty rare nowdays and going up in value it seems.I have been messing around restoring this tank for the last 8 years! You probably could get it whiter still, then wax buff it to get the
shine back in. I have just left it fine sanded, ready to either use
or restore yet more. I recommend a good wax mop buff, that will put the
shine back into the plastic, it only has had rough wax down and I
will not buff it anymore as the new owner may yet want to try getting it
whiter still, before doing the final buff.
If
you study the pics, you can sort of see on the underside how white it
is and the area the seat covered, this is because the UV light(sunlight) has not reached those areas
and they have remained more white. the otherside(visible tank) is not as
white as the underside, but given the state most of these tanks are in,
the whiteness level is pretty good, probably as good as you could find on a genuine aged 1984 tank. The brass inserts for the tank shrouds are really solid, no cracks and certainly not loose, they are really bedded in nice and strong by the looks of them.
Its a hell of a lot of work,
sanding, trying other methods, experimenting etc to keep trying to get
it whiter still.... abit like a game ! Anyway, time for me to stop
playing the 'how white can I get it' game and move it onto YZ250
owner who can put it on his bike and enjoy it!
I do have the original Gas Tank Cap and also the original petcock that will be included in the sale.
